Painting in Progress

Check out this painting in progress & let me know what you think!

This painting is made of plaster, canvas & oil that I began a few months ago.  I couldn't figure out the direction it should take so it was shelved for a few months. It sat as a prepared canvas with plaster built upon it waiting for hue to give it life. Now it is back in action ready for work. I have added some colour to it to show the basic plan for where I will build up the colours.  This composition is inspired by a rain forest waterfall. The blue parts at the bottom represent the river, there are 2 waterfalls, one on each canvas, and lots of luscious green forest. Don't see it? Look a little deeper.  Don't worry, I'll post pictures of the completed painting.

Below I have included a picture of the "support" that I use to hang my paintings on while I work.  It is constructed from a 24"x36" picture frame and foam core board.  Every once in a while when the FCB gets too many holes in it from the thumb tacks I replace it.

As I painted on various supports (table, wall, easel, wooden board) I discovered that I enjoy painting on the wall the best because I can hang the canvas, access all of the edges--so I can paint the sides as well as the front--and see how it will look like in it's future state of display.  I use thumb tacks to hang the canvas.

My Studio is currently in my rental apartment. With that in mind, and I also want to get my damage deposit back, I have created my own "wall" with this frame and FCB placed upon my easel. This gives me greater stability and access to all sides of the painting and I can keep the walls of the rental unit clean! I also paint over a drop cloth to catch any drips that may stray from my brush.

What do you see? Any ideas or impressions come to mind? Do you have an opinion on the direction you think this painting should go? Post a comment below!

Keep creating my friends.
